Real promos generated by the app — no editor touched them.

An explainer video has one job, and it isn't to look expensive. It's to take a person who has never seen your product and leave them, sixty seconds later, able to tell a colleague what it does. Most product videos fail that test — including beautiful ones. The animation dazzles, the music swells, and the viewer still can't say what the software is for.

This is an explainer video maker built around that one job. You paste your product's URL. It reads your site — what you do, who it's for, your colors, your type, your logo — writes an explainer script that actually explains, records the voiceover, composes the music and designs every frame around the words. No template gallery, no timeline editor to learn. Usually minutes, from $29.

What makes an explainer different from a promo

A promo sells a feeling; an explainer transfers understanding. That changes how the script has to be built.

A promo can open with a mood. An explainer has to open with the problem — the situation your customer is already standing in — because understanding starts from something familiar. Then one clear turn: what your product is, in one sentence a stranger could repeat. Then the two or three steps of how it actually works, in the order a real user would touch them. That structure is older than software because it's how people learn.

The AI here writes in that shape. It doesn't decorate your homepage copy; it reads what your product does and rebuilds it as a sequence someone can follow — problem, turn, how it works, what you get. If your product has real screens, they appear at exactly the moment the script explains them, framed and animated, because in an explainer the UI isn't decoration — it's the evidence.

From URL to finished explainer

You give it your product's URL. It analyzes the site and writes three script directions in your brand's tone — different angles on the same product, because the first framing you think of is rarely the clearest one. You pick a direction and edit it in plain English: "mention the free tier", "the second point should be about onboarding", "shorter".

You choose a voice from a professional lineup and a music mood, or let it decide from your brand's character. Then it designs the animation — kinetic type for the lines that carry the argument, your real product screens for the proof, illustrated motion scenes for the ideas that need a picture. Every frame is authored for your script; nothing is poured into a pre-existing layout.

You see the storyboard and hear the pacing before you spend anything. The final render is the only thing you pay for — in 16:9 for your site, 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, or 1:1 for feeds.

What explainer videos cost everywhere else

The classic route is an explainer studio. The good ones are genuinely good — and their pricing starts around $5,000 and climbs well past $20,000, with a four-to-eight-week timeline and a producer-shaped hole in your calendar. That's the right buy when the video is your brand's single biggest moment. It's a strange buy for a feature launch, an onboarding page, or an ad variant you might kill in two weeks.

Freelancers land in the high hundreds to low thousands and one to three weeks, if you write a real brief and run the production yourself. Template tools are cheap monthly, but your category's fifteen favourite layouts are recognisable from across the room — and an explainer that looks like everyone else's undermines the very thing it's supposed to do, which is explain why you're different.

Here an explainer is from $29, cheaper in packs, and exists before your next meeting ends. We compared all four routes honestly — including when we're the wrong choice — in agency vs freelancer vs AI.

The test your explainer has to pass

Play it for someone who has never seen your product, once, with the sound on. Then ask them what the product does.

If they can answer in their own words, the explainer works — even if you're tired of the music. If they hesitate, no amount of polish will save it, because the failure is in the script, not the frames. This test is brutal and it's the only one that matters.

It's also why being able to make several versions cheaply changes the outcome, not just the cost. Your first script is a hypothesis about what needs explaining. The version where you lead with the integration instead of the dashboard, or cut the feature you love that nobody asked about — that's usually the one that passes. At studio prices you never find out, because nobody re-briefs a $10,000 video to test a hunch.

When you shouldn't use this

If you need a founder on camera, customer testimonials, or live-action footage of real people using the product — this doesn't do that. It makes animated explainers: motion design, your real UI, kinetic type, illustration and licensed footage.

If the video is the centrepiece of a rebrand and you want a creative director to challenge your positioning before a single frame exists, hire the studio. That argument is worth the invoice, and software can't have it with you.

And if you can't yet say what your product does in one sentence, an explainer video maker will only automate the confusion. Write the sentence first. The AI will take it much further from there.

Frequently asked questions

What is an explainer video maker?

A tool that produces the video explaining what your product does and how it works. This one starts from your product's URL: the AI reads your site, writes the explainer script, records a professional voiceover, composes music and designs every frame of animation to match the words — instead of asking you to assemble scenes from a template library.

How long should an explainer video be?

60–90 seconds for a product explainer a stranger will watch; 30 seconds if it's for ads. The honest rule: as short as it can be while still passing the test — could a first-time viewer say what your product does afterwards? Length past that point costs attention without adding understanding.

Can it use my real product screens?

Yes, and it should — in an explainer your UI is the evidence. Add screenshots or a screen recording and they're framed, animated and timed to appear exactly when the script explains them. Portrait screens go in a phone frame, desktop screens in a browser window. If you don't provide any, it designs clean illustrative UI instead.

Do I need to write the script?

No. The AI writes three script directions after reading your site, structured the way explainers work: problem first, then one clear sentence about what the product is, then how it works in order. You edit in plain English, or paste your own script and it gets voiced and animated instead.

How much does an explainer video cost here?

From $29 for a single video. Packs bring it down: $69 for one with full rights, $117 for three, $290 for ten. One-time payments, no subscription. Everything before the final render — analysis, scripts, storyboard, voice preview — is free, so you know exactly what you're buying.

What languages can the voiceover be in?

Major world languages, with native-quality AI voices — English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, Japanese and more. The script is written in your chosen language, not translated after the fact, and the on-screen type is designed for that language including right-to-left scripts.

Is this a template with my logo on it?

No. There's no scene library. The script is written first, and the animation is authored to say what your script says, in your brand's colors and type. Two products never come out looking the same — the easy check is to watch any two examples and try to find the shared layout. There isn't one.

Can I make a vertical version for Reels or TikTok?

Yes — 9:16 is a first-class format here, designed for the narrow frame rather than cropped from the widescreen version. You can render the same explainer in 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1.

Founder — motion designer

Behind PromoHyper is a real motion designer — 15 years crafting videos for teams at Microsoft, xAI, Cloudflare and dozens of startups — and that standard is built into the engine. What it ships is more polished than the four-figure video you'd normally wait weeks for, yet it's ready in about half an hour.
